Anime was known to thrive at the early 2000's, beating TV shows and some even call this current era the "peak" era of entertainment, no matter what year you were born and what era you belong to these top 06 anime are the best of their era (Early 2000's)
06: Monster: The Ultimate psychological thriller.
Few anime grip the mind like Monster. This 2004 masterpiece, adapted from Naoki Urasawa’s manga, weaves an intense psychological thriller around Dr. Kenzo Tenma—a surgeon who saves a young boy, Johan Liebert, only to discover years later that he has become a ruthless serial killer. To atone for his decision, Tenma embarks on a haunting pursuit to stop the monster he created.
Johan isn't your typical villain with supernatural powers or weapons, all he has is his mind and pure thrill to discover what truly happens when a genius like himself manipulates people to do things beyond gruesome without even getting blood on his hands.
05: Hellsing
Hellsing: The most badass vampire anime
Hellsing follows the story of London's own Vampire king; Alucard. As he works for the hellsing organisation to kill other vampires (ironic, I know) and monsters. While looking like as dead as a rusty nail, don't let the looks fool you, this vampire is lethal and non forgiving in the sense of you ever wanting your soul back.
This anime changed the definition of gruesome entirely with it's epic visuals and larger than life vampiric abilities. I mean, who doesn't want to see a monster rip another monster to shreds.
04: Yu Gi Oh! Duel monsters
The anime that built a generation. The Yu Gi Oh franchise follows teens, and adults as they battle through cards tied to ancient deities with amazing and unique abilities. This anime is acknowledged as one of the best for it's amazing storyline accompanied by it's diversity in actual storytelling. I mean, who's ever thought of a show with cards and Yu Gi Oh didn't just pop into their heads.
The show was so popular it got a whole real life card game following the anime, with just as many cards and dueling opportunities. But the first ever instalment is what we gather here today to speak about, Following Yugi moto, a high school kid who reassembles pieces of an ancient artifact and gets possessed by the spirit of a pharaoh to help in duels and uncover the secrets of the game's history.
03: Samurai Champloo.
Now this is where it's at, balancing hip hop and action we have samurai Champloo at 03.
This anime follows the story of two samurai, one being the best iteration of dance fighting while the other being a cold and typical samurai, both sentenced to death but managed to escape due to their friend, Fuu. Now compelled to help her find a samurai she once glanced at; He who smells of sunflowers.
With only that we know the pace is fast especially due to Mugen and Jin [Both samurai] being serious rivals.
The anime got it's accolades for it's clear diversity in the assumed anime community of samurai. Mixing action, comedy and hip hop trend.
02: Naruto.
Here we are! Leave it to Naruto to get to 02, very sure some of y'all thought we forgot about the anime that reshaped what it meant to find and understand the ninja way.
I mean, do I even need to explain why Naruto is on the list?
It started with one of the most banger of a first episodes and showed how a little bit of determination when no one else believes can go a long way. Even being talked about today as one of the best animes out there, even winning the AnimaniA awards for best TV series in 2007 and just recently winning 'Internationally influential anime of the world' at the tencent video awards in 2024.
Naruto shows that time of run doesn't matter aslong as the story is amazing people will follow and it will always have a special place in our hearts. Believe it!
01: Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood.
Last but definitely not least we have fullmetal alchemist, highly regarded as the best anime of all time, perfectly balancing comedy, action, friendship, romance and sacrifice into one. Big emphasis on "Sacrifice" as the story follows Brothers Alphonse and Edward as they perform a sacred ritual through alchemy in an attempt to revive their mother.
Little did they know that the rule of equivalent exchange plays a huge role in their world, both brothers losing a part of themselves during the ritual.
In search of the philosophers stone, an artifact that is said to be beyond the rule of equivalent exchange, the brothers aim to get the stone and return back to their normal state.
This anime is regarded as one of the best solely because of it's uniqueness in storytelling, so many stories in one big anime that all blossomed beautifully in nothing more than 60 episodes.
Conclusion:
While Anime has gotten better we will never forget the ones who ruled theater at the beginning of it all, the ones we would sit right at the television immediately we heard the opening theme song. The classics really are, Unbeatable.
